Accumulation
Up one levelIce sheet growth or shrinkage is closely linked to snow accumulation and its changes. Knowledge of the spatial and temporal pattern of accumulation rates is crucial in understanding the impact of the East Antarctic ice sheet on sea-level change. Shallow radar as well as ice cores will be used to determine accumulation rates. GPS yields important information about the surface topography, which influences the variations in accumulation.
Shallow radar
Investigations of spatial variability of snow and firn properties by the University of Oslo.
GPS
Investigations of surface topography and dynamics by GPS, by the University of Oslo, the University of Maine and the Norwegian Polar Institute.
Accumulation rates
Determination of accumulation rates from combined analysis of shallow radar and DEP data, by the Norwegian Polar Institute and the University of Oslo.
